HiSO I watched the trailer for this book and was hooked It took me a while to finally read it I have 2 young children and their bedtime stories always come before mine Well I read this collection in one sitting I could not put it down Each story was different and this author packed delightful creepiness in each of themMy favorite was WRAPPED IN SMALL FLESH AND BONE such a deliciously devilish tale I have one complaint too short must have My appetite has been whet Can't wait to see what else Latashia Figueroa has cooking on her menu

These are tales worth reading This review does not contain spoilersJust a general note It's very hard to write horror in a way that builds tension and suspense because readers will always look for where the story will turn Much like romance readers anticipate happy endings readers of horror anticipate a downfall so by nature the author will have to predictably fulfil such expectations That's not to say that all the stories here are predictable Knowing that something bad is going to happen and seeing it unfold leading you down the dark path does not remove enjoyment from these tales in the slightest Ms Figueroa's writing is about the journey and experience as much as it is about the plotFrom a writer's point of view and I believe writers judging other writers are always the harshest critics Ms Figueroa has a genuine talent in the craft of writing There are no masters and I think her writing could be improved if the stories were told tightly editing out sentences that don't give new information or don't add to the tension but even as they are they do feel polished and well worked These stories have the style and feel of a professional authorWrapped In Small Flesh And BoneLatishia has an especially strong narrative voice in this tale capturing and describing emotions very well However this story really does need to be longer because it starts off at a great pace and then rushes at the end revealing information that could be executed slowly for further tension and not time jumping ahead uite so dramatically I feel this was its only flaw; that it should be longer I adored the main character; you can really feel his love frustration and helplessness You can put yourself in his place It was that emotional connection that makes this story greatThe AlternativeImaginative and bizarre This is something I imagine coming from Clive Barker or Lovecraft The author has her own style and pace and I'm so glad to see something entirely different from pop horror that I have very little to say about this I don't think this story will be for everyone but for me it was a shining example of true creativity in horrorThe RetreatNot my favourite of the three and firmly in the genre of pop horror I would've preferred this story written from Daaz's point of view as he is the person who has the most information and I think if written from that POV it would be a compelling psychological tale and less 'typical horror'If you're a fan of early Stephen King then you'll like what Latishia Figueroa has to offer you
